ABOUT TINA

I come from a family of beautiful, thin women who never exercise and eat however they want, but not me. In high school, I managed to hide the fact that I was 185 lbs by being “muscular.” In my early 20s I struggled with bulimia and managed to get down to 165 lbs. I was able to overcome the bulimia but the battle continued and the weight came back immediately.

When I became pregnant with my daughter in 1996 I assumed “eating for two” meant two families! I gained 55 lbs and topped the scale the day she was born at 240. I excused it by saying it was “baby weight.” Nearly 2 years later, trying to lose that last 10 lbs, I found out I was pregnant with my son. Nine months after my son was born, having lost only 10 lbs of the 30 lbs I gained with him, I found out I was pregnant again. After having my third child in five years, my original high-school weight seemed like a dream goal and I gave up hope of ever being under 200 lbs, although I continued to try every quick fix I could get my hands on.

In March 2006, after going for a routine eye exam, the doctor suggested I get tested for diabetes. I went to my physician who agreed that it was definately possible and I had nearly every risk factor. I stepped off his scale unable to believe that it read 237 lbs!!!!   I decided that day that I would lose the weight that would kill me or die trying.

I’d been eyeing Slim in 6 but hadn’t wanted to spend the money if I was just going to fizzle out like every time before. This time I swore I would finish.
In the first week, I followed the 6 Day Slim Down to a T and lost 12 lbs. It kept me motivated on the hard days 4 weeks into the program. By the end of 6 weeks, I lost 24 lbs and nearly 24 inches.

I was ready to start Power 90 with my husband when we decided to move. For a month, I quit working out to pack boxes and quit eating right for convenience. I also gained back 5 lbs. I began to fear that I would head down the same road I had many times before. I wasn’t going to let it happen.

I had a hard time getting motivated again until I tried Turbo Jam. I was hooked the first time I pushed play. I enjoyed the kickboxing and got a great workout but had so much darn fun! I’d never looked forward to working out before but everyday for the next month was the same! I ordered the next set, then the next, then the next…I just couldn’t get enough and this had never happened. I didn’t think exercise could ever really be fun (only health nuts said that!)

I have done Power 90, every Turbo Jam video on the market, Hip Hop Abs, P90X (on my 4th round), P90X+ and ChaLEAN Extreme! Since buying my first Beachbody video, I have lost over 100 lbs, 29% body fat and 16 inches from my waist alone!!!! I can hardly believe it!!!!

In October of 06, I became a certified Turbo Kick instructor and began teaching classes at my church in Jan 07.  I soon became the leader for the Health and Fitness ministry. In March 07, I became a Beachbody Coach and in July 07, I was awarded the July $10,000 Success Story for Beachbody.  In Aug.07, I was given a GOLD Turbo Kick certification and in March 08 was asked to be a part of the new Slim in 6 infomercial (just airing now).

In Feb 08,  taught my first Biggest Loser/Revolution Challenge to help others understand nutrition, fitness and how it is tied together with our spiritual selves.  Since Fall of 08, I have been teaching several classes each week for the local college including Boot Camp, Biggest Loser, Parent & Me and this summer will be teaching Kid’s Boot Camp and Biggest Loser Families.   I have opened my home for the Merced Fit Club where my friends, clients and customers can come work out with me.

I am now at my goal weight (which I weighed when I was 11 yrs old) and I did it the healthy way. No quick fixes, no pills, no eating disorders, just healthy habits and commitment. Even more, I am still having so much stinking fun that I can’t stop telling people how fantastic Beachbody is!!

Since reaching my original goal of 150, I am now setting new, tougher goals – 137 lbs and 15% body fat. I have gone from a very tight size 18 to a size 5!!! (I even have some size 1s) I think I was born bigger than that!!! My husband has a happy wife again. I actually like myself and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished so far. I simply can’t sit still anymore, it’s just not possible. I am always on the move because I have so much energy. (They don’t call me the Energizer Bunny for nothing!) I am now able to do things for the first time since childhood, things like running, playing outdoors, hiking, going to the beach (in a bikini, no less!) and riding a bike.

Beachbody put me onto the road of wellness and Beachbody has kept me there and I credit them with saving my life as well as my family’s. I have successfully helped my mother combat diabetes with diet and my daughter has her hypoglycemia under control. Without Beachbody, I wouldn’t have had the tools to help either of them develop healthier lifestyle habits. When I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance as well as severe hypoglycemia. Without Beachbody, I would have given up on the strict diet restrictions but because of what I’ve learned over the last two years, I know this is just a part of the process in becoming the healthiest me that I can be!

Beachbody has helped me to reach every fitness goal I could have dreamed of and more!!!! :D I am so excited to be helping others realize that they can make these same changes in their lives.

I’m so honored to have the opportunity to inspire others through my struggles to make changes spiritually and physically to better themselves!!!   I love empowering other people to realize that they don’t have to accept excuses any longer, they can make the necessary changes!!!!! It doesn’t matter how many times you may have quit before – this time will be different. You do not have to be characterized by past failures but by your ability to strive for your goals past the failure.  I love seeing that light in their eyes when they realize that exercise is not a chore!! Our health is the greatest gift we have and we need to remember to treat our bodies with respect and teach our children to do the same!!!

I don’t even recognize the person in my before pictures anymore because that’s just not me. This past three years has been an amazing journey where every single step has taught me so many things about myself…nothing is impossible if you keep your eyes on your goals. I now know that I can accomplish anything!!!!!

UPDATE Aug 2010:  I am now a Star Diamond rank in Team Beachbody and one of less than 300 leaders invited to the Team Beachbody Leadership Conference in Dallas this year.  Our team has grown tremendously and we are proud of each of our Coaches who have stepped out to change their financial futures and, even more, the lives of those around them!

ABOUT BRYUN:

I am an ordinary average guy who, even though I was active in sports in high school, let myself get out of shape as I got older. I found that after I got married to my wife, Tina, and had children, life became even busier which crowded out making time for my health. Of course, I didn’t bother to make my health a priority and, what was worse, I did not want to.

The truth is, I was finding myself sliding deeper into a negative outlook on life, becoming more and more depressed. Even though I knew I had a family history of heart disease, I found myself not caring about the risk of leaving my wife without a husband and my kids without a father. I went about life making very unhealthy food choices, and not exercising at all. In short, I viewed life as just something I had to endure rather than enjoy.

Tina decided to get healthy and lose weight in March of 2006. She started on a journey of health with my support from me (I cheered, “Go, honey!” from the couch.)  But I refused to join her, choosing instead to continue with my negative outlook on life.

In August of 2008, I finally listened to Tina and decided to start a healthy lifestyle of my own. I began the P90X fitness program (with a lot of modifications) and began my journey, baby step by baby step, which I still continue today.

Since then, I have also been through the ChaLEAN Extreme fitness program and am currently doing P90X for the second time. I have gone from around 220 lbs. to 175 lbs and 28% body fat to 10% body fat. I find life to so much more joyful as I continue to improve my health and my walk with God. I no longer view life as an ordeal that I must get through but as an experience to cherish.

I feel honored to have had you visit my blog…You’re most inspiring and I’d like to pay more attention to what you’re up to. I do have a bit of a problem with over exercising because of my eating disorder, but with the right frame of mind, someday I hope to enjoy these things for the benefit of my over all health. I love to shut my eyes and see me living my life in the near future as you are living yours today, thank you for so much more than you know.

What a terrific story of success! I am also a mother of three (boys) and work full time as a family nurse practitioner. I have always been “athletic” but have alsways wanted to push myself to see what I can attain. That’s why I purchased P90X. I have been gathering all the “tools” I need to have success and am close to starting the program. Glad to know there is someone who can support me and answer questions. Cheers to you and your husband for being there!

Wow! You have a very inspiring story Tina. I have to tell you. I purchased my Turbo Jam video about two years ago. I watched the instructions and barely tried it for the first time last summer. I could only make it through the first twenty five minutes at the most. After the first day I missed bootcamp, I felt horrible so I put on Turbo jam. Girl I can make it through the whole entire workout now. I know that is because of all the conditioning you guys have been giving us at bootcamp! Thank you! Oh and yes Turbo Jam is fun!

    Hey Tina!
I am so glad you have this! I’m struggling with whether I can sign up for the next session of boot camp or not-based off of my class schedule. I have loved every minute of your class. Being a newbie to Merced and all it was a great way to meet such wonderful people. Thanks for the pain Tina!

I know that its hard to lose fat but I know with your’s and Bryun’s help I can reach my goal! :-)
